Stix and Yarn

It's amazing what you can create with a couple of sticks and a length of string.. well, the sticks have been sharpened and the string turned to yarn, but hey, it's not that different!

These Ekokid dolls and all their clothes and accessories have been made with a couple of pointy sticks - generally known as knitting needles (size 4mm, US 6, UK old 8) and double knitting yarn.

Start collecting scraps of yarn from fellow knitters - ask them first - and you can create a unique eco-friendly Barbie doll who's cuddly, dresses easily and won't max out the credit card.

I often see knitting needles in charity shops but even buyng them new won't make much of a dent in your purse, and they last for ever! And if you can't borrow any yarn to start you off, check out bundles of colours from ebay or amazon. Make sure it's 'double knitting' weight and you have a ball of flesh colour - whether pink, white, brown or green :-) for the main doll. All the other colours can be used for clothes and accessories.

You should get 4 basic dolls out of 100g of double knitting yarn, so even if you have to buy the basic doll colour new, again it won't be that expensive.

Grab a little soft toy filling and a skein of red and blue cotton silk for the features and you're almost done. Now, make a cuppa, put your feet up, turn on the kindle and get those needles clicking!

Bedtime Cuddles

Spring is in the air!

Sunshine and longer days are on their way. However, encouraging children to go to bed before it gets dark can be frustrating for everyone.. this bedtime collection for your Ekokid doll should do the trick.

Knit up a cuddly bedtime set for the Ekokid in your life, complete with a toy doll for your toy doll :-)

These simple step by step patterns are worked with 4mm needles (old UK size 8 and US size 6) and double knitting yarn. You’ll also need a little soft toy filling for the pillow, a short length of narrow ribbon or elastic for the pyjama bottoms and a short length of shirring elastic for the wash bag.
